Dear Garfield Foundation/Endowment Friends:
A group of parents and alumni met with me on April 17th to begin the
formation of a Organizing committee for our new Garfield Foundation/Endowment.
Consultants Lorna Follis and Tom Bailey will assist and guide us in our work
together.
* Our plan is to have one or two more organizational meetings prior to
the end of the school year. We will select Organizing committee leadership,
confirm and clarify our mission, vision, goals, and action plans (including
general timelines)...and then take a breather until September.
* Our plans center on contacting and re-connecting with Garfield
alumni, and kicking off the foundation in a Celebration of Garfield event
some time in the future (earliest would be September 2003).
* Our next meeting will be held on May 22, 2002 (Wednesday), from
6:00-8:00 PM, in Garfield's Activities Center (first floor). Please come to
this meeting, and bring with you other alumni, parents, community members,
and staff committed to the history and future of our wonderfully diverse
Garfield student body.
* During the summer, Lorna and Tom will work with Organizing committee
leadership to more specifically organize the work of the Organizing committee
during the next next school year.
Thank you for your involvement in this fun--and big(!)--project. All of
Garfield is grateful for you.
Take care, see you on the 22nd,
Susan
